Pastor’s Notes

On June 12, 2011 the Kentucky Annual Conference of United Methodists closed with the recognition of appointments for the coming year.  The appointments are listed by districts and in alphabetical order.  The Owensboro District was next to last so it took some time hearing our names called.  Once our names and the church we would serve were called, we knew our appointment for the year.

Garland Hawkins, serving at First United Methodist Church, Morganfield, Kentucky, was appointed to serve his tenth year.  It seems as though time has stood still these past nine years but yet we see the signs of growth in our children.

For example, Shelby Wyatt, Lindsey Carroll, and Duncan Taylor were nine years old when we arrived back in June, 2002.  All three have just graduated from high school and going on to further their education.

These past nine years have reflected the deaths of many souls of whom we hold dear in our hearts.  Juxtaposed to our deaths has been the birth of many children.  So, all in all, we have been able to hold our own as to church membership.

We look forward to year ten to see how we connect with God’s will and purpose for our church.  As we have aged chronologically, may we also grow spiritually?

Next year we can report that year ten has been the best one yet.  Would you covenant with me to make that a reality?

Blessings,

Pastor Hawkins
